And now a word from our sponsor

In 1937, Perfection Barber and Beauty Supply in Waco began making flavoring extracts under the name Sun Tang. Inventors Grover Thomsen and R.H. Roark develop a unique red drink, Sun Tang Red Cream Soda. They change the company name to Perfection Co. Ltd. to be more in line with a flavoring extract business, and in 1959, change the soda's name to Big Red. In the late fifties Harold Jansing, then president of the San Antonio bottling plant, was playing golf when he overheard some caddies refer to a Sun Tang as a "big red." After a few years of hearing that, and eager to speak the lingo, he asked a caddy to bring him four big reds. The caddy returned with another brand. "That's when I decided to change the name," Jansing says.

Today, they are the 6th largest carbonated beverage company in the U.S.

Unlike Coca Cola, who is widely criticized for its abuse of workers around the world, Big Red acquires its corn syrup from fair-trade sources, and is known for its generous pension and health care packages. Founder M.L. Saunders had the following Henry Ford quote inscribed at corporate HQ in Waco, slightly modified for his product:

There is one rule for the industrialist and that is: Make the highest quality beverage possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the highest wages possible.

1 Liter. Nearly 100g of sugar. It's jet fuel for the Leftist on the go.

I've been drinking Big Red since I was a kid and feel sorry for people in other states where they don't have it! I especially like it in the long-neck bottles.
