Mythbusting CD22

MYTH #1: "Tom DeLay could beat Nick Lampson."

I'm not sure if I should chalk this one up to delusion, denial or being just plain dumb.

MYTH #2 - "Fort Bend County is a GOP strong-hold."

I see this myth all over the national media and blogosphere. And it's just wrong. The numbers from 2004 in Fort Bend - 55% across the board, trending rapidly Democrat:

The 2004 county-wide races

Add a few more factors:

1. Demographic shifts - Exploding Asian community, middle class growth in Precinct 3.

2. New democrat votes are outpacing new GOP votes. Fort Bend is one of the few counties in Texas where this is true. And those new votes pre-date the shifts in the public opinion of the GOP during the last 2 years.

3. The taint of corruption and cronyism haunts the local GOP. From Tom DeLay to Jeanie Parr, voters have been reminded of the problems inherent in one-party rule.

4. The local GOP is torn by factionalism and in-fighting, and is dangerously underfunded.

5. The national and local GOP have launched an ugly attack on the Hispanic community, feeling immigration is "an invasion" that is a threat to "their way of life." They're right: There will be an invasion...It will take place at the polls.

With all this in mind, it's obvious that Red Fort Bend is on the verge on turning some serious Purple...The age of GOP domination of county-wide offices is coming to an end. I've said it before, and I expect to say it again: Fort Bend will the site of some of the most competitive and interesting campaigns of the next decade.

MYTH 3 - "Lampson is a liberal."

Been there, done that. Go check it out:

Is Lampson a Liberal?

MYTH 4 - "Republicans have fashion sense."

As promised last week, here is a picture from inside the last Fort Bend GOP meeting, featuring the hopelessly inappropriate attire of Shelley Sekula Gibbs' point-woman:

Now I'm not Mr. Blackwell, but there are limits people. Yes, it says "Sex on the Beach!" Even bigger on the reverse side. Notice that the other pictured Gibbs worker is wearing a sports jacket with a bizarre crest on the breast. I was almost shocked not to see an ascot. Another oddity: This is what passes for a sexy woman at a GOP meeting. You should've seen the pack of balding 30-ish men in Aggie golf shirts throwing smiles her way and attempting to sidle up to her.

MYTH 5 - "Clapton is God."

But Hendrix is Vishnu:

I can almost hear all the Republican men thinking, "zah, zah, zing!" when she walked into the room. From the looks of her hair, the poor girl obviously stuck her finger in a light plug and fried her first choice outfit. That outfit was just something she had in the trunk of her car for a beach outing.

The chest on the blazer? His previous outfit said, "Will hack for food." Shelley got the jacket for him at Goodwill.

Thanks for pics. They are worth a million dollars.

Myth #4: What the h-e-double hockey sticks is that? She's not real, is she? Only a human-form, right?

Unless the crest on his jacket says "Astronaut Corp," I think he's a pretentious SOB.

We need you to bring us more pictures of Republican meetings. We need to see what they wear to impress each other.

Ha Ha Shelley looks like a drunk crawling out of a bar at 3am. I've seen better dressed people at the feed store (and that includes the ones with the holes in the t-shirt over their belly button).

Here's what the women wear (except for beach girl):

red outfit with red shoes
yellow outfit with yellow shoes
pink outfit with pink shoes

Oh, and big, big artificial looking, hairsprayed hair.

A vote is a vote. When it comes down to it that's all I've seen these "want to be" politicians care about. A shirt? Maybe SEX ON THE BEACH would help all of you. If anyone had a clue, it's a Japanese drink. Now, are you dis'ing the Japanese?

My mind is made up,as an American, not a Republican, Democrat,or whatever the hell party people are choosing. The only person that should get a vote is that cool girl with the Sex On the Beach shirt. Finally someone taking a stand for the people, not the politicians who wish they were as cool as the cool girl.
